Don’t Miss These May Events In and Around Eagle County

Spring is here! Rain, sun and new life seem to come into the Valley! It’s that time of year when we transition from skiing to biking and welcome longer and warmer days.

It’s also the time of year when there’s a lot of fun taking place in our community. To help you get your Spring calendar in order, here are a few of our favorite events taking place over the next month.

May 20-May 24: Avon | Town Cleanup Week

We love this event since it’s up to us to keep our communities clean and beautiful. On Thursday, May 23, Avon will hold the fourth annual Town Clean-Up Day event, giving volunteers a chance to clean up Avon after a long winter season.

The clean-up will take place between 5-6:30pm.  Volunteers will be able to set full trash bags curbside, as Avon Public Works staff will retrieve and dispose of the filled bags. At 6:30pm, all volunteers will head back to the Pavilion Event Terrace for free food and drink. See more information here!

May 24-May 26: Beaver Creek | Blues, Brews + BBQ Festival

It’s hard not to love one (or all three) of the stars at this festival! It’s the perfect opportunity to showcase your BBQ skills at the competition or just relax and take in good food and music. There’s something for everyone at this Spring event.

May 26-June 2: Beaver Creek | Dining at Altitude

If you’re a foodie, this is a not to be missed event! Beaver Creek Restaurant Weeks spans across Vail and Beaver Creek and celebrates amazing food in a beautiful atmosphere.

The events feature a wide variety of prix fixe menus and specials all starting at $20.19 and all showcasing the incredible and diverse culinary offerings available throughout the Vail and Beaver Creek Villages. Get the details here!

May 31-June 1: Eagle | Eagle Outside Festival

The Eagle Outside Festival showcases Eagle’s great weather, incredible quality of life, and its sprawling trail network. The centerpiece of our festival is the consumer demo, where you can pick up a bike from over 20 bike brands and take them for a spin on over 100 miles of singletrack.

As if that weren’t enough, attendees can enjoy The Bonfire Block Party, a downtown street party with national touring musicians, great craft beer and more in a unique downtown venue. See the full schedule here!

May 31-June 2: Eagle | Bonfire Brewing Block Party

This Memorial Day weekend event offers something for everybody! With an impressive musical lineup, food from downtown restaurants, local beer and vendors, this event is worth stopping by to enjoy a concert and a bite to eat (or spending the whole weekend at).

You can see the full music lineup, list of restaurants who will be serving food and more here!

Community Spotlight: Pelo Dog Indoor Cycling

As you know, we love sharing stories about amazing people creating wonderful businesses in our community.

So today, we are beyond excited to introduce you to Jen Kaplan!

Before we tell you more about her new business opening later this Summer, we wanted to share with you her story (since she’s a pretty inspiring woman).

Jen started her career as an attorney, but felt like she was missing out on her true calling, so nearly a decade ago she founded Yellow Dog Pilates.

As a Pilates Instructor Jen gained extensive knowledge of both fitness and rehab modalities of Pilates and is highly experienced in working with clients rehabbing injuries and coping with a wide variety of spinal and other conditions.  She has also completed numerous advanced trainings, including Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies, Enhancing Athletic Performance, Unwinding Scoliosis, Scapulohumeral Rhythm, Rotator Cuff, Shoulder Impingement and Pilates, and Tracey Mallet’s Booty Barre – making her a complete rockstar at her craft.

In addition to loving Pilates, Jen is also an avid cyclist (mountain and road).  She is a certified Indoor Cycling Instructor through both Schwinn Indoor Cycling and Stages Indoor Cycling.

Jen couldn’t help but notice that our community was missing a cycling studio.

And, she’s decided to fix that.

She is thrilled to be opening Pelo Dog Indoor Cycling in Avon, CO (Traer Creek), late-summer 2019, which will bring a high-end and boutique indoor cycling experience to the Vail Valley!

Pelo Dog Indoor Cycling will also include a state-of-the art Pilates studio, which will be the new home of Yellow Dog Pilates.

What we love most about Jen’s vision is the community she aspires to build at the studio. A place where people of all ages and fitness levels are not only welcome, but feel comfortable and right at home.

A community where there is no pretentious nature, but rather a place for people who are interested in a community that is focused and results-driven, yet inclusive and welcoming; an environment where you can completely unplug, yet at the same time totally connect. ‘

Pelo Dog will offer monthly memberships and punch-pass options and is scheduled to open its doors this Summer! We’ll be sharing updates in the months ahead, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, take a look at Pelo Dog online for more information and to receive real-time updates about the studio’s debut.

And, a huge thanks to Jen! We’re so excited to be a part of the Pelo Dog community!

Help Us Help a Very Special Man in Need – David Morgan

Today, we wanted to share the story of a dear friend of ours – David Morgan – and ask for your help!

David was diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer earlier this month after going to the doctor thinking he was experiencing severe acid reflux. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

After being told he had a year and a half to live, he confidently told friends and family, I’m not ready to go yet!” And, this passionate attitude is one of the many things that make David such a special man.

  • He’s an amazing father to his daughter.
  • He’s the uncle his nephew, Tate, who just can’t get enough of him.
  • He’s a caring son who has been the primary caregiver to his 84-year old mom.
  • He’s an amazing friend to all those who know him.
  • He’s a REALTOR who has thoughtfully helped a lot of home buyers and sellers for over 20 years.
  • He’s worked in the restaurant industry serving people’s favorite flavors for too many years to count!
  • He’s a Colorado Native.
  • He’s a passionate outdoor enthusiast whose favorite mountain to board is Vail.
  • He’s an awesome uncle who enjoys attending his nephews sporting events, and his nephew always plays a litter harder when uncle D is on the sidelines.
  • He lights up any room that he walks in.

This is just the start of what makes David such an extraordinary human being. And, now, after decades of giving love, attention and care to others, he needs our help!

Starting soon, David will begin a very aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatment schedule – radiation five days a week for five weeks and two different types of chemo once a week.

The cost of this treatment is very expensive and has forced David to put his home up for sale and to have an estate sale to let go of his life’s belongings.

We know David very well, and he’s a fighter, but he and his family also need financial help. He needs our support so that he can focus his energy on fighting his horrible disease!

Any amount helps, so please consider donating to help him as he fights for his life to beat cancer!

You can help by visiting his Go Fund Me page.

On behalf of David, his family and our team….THANK YOU!
